My favorite things: Miami weekend pop up edition

There is something so special about a quick weekend trip because you are willing to put your foot on the gas to make sure you get all the fun in on one weekend. When your turn around trip has a destination of Miami you already know it is going to be one helluva weekend.  So while my trip to Miami was filled with pre-planned fun like the Museum of Ice Cream and the Veuve Carnival, I also wanted to make sure to get in some of my old and new favs to check off my list

To start the hotel. The location of your hotel can be tricky because you have to balance the cost of South Beach hotels with the convenience of being close to the action.  For me being centrally located in a city where you are on the move helps you keep the party going when the wear and tear of a busy weekend may start to kick in.  For this trip I pulled a sister hotel from one my Miami favs and stayed at the Redbury Miami.  This hotel is new to the SLS properties and while just across the street from sister hotels like the SLS South Beach and the Delano it definitely offers its own unique twist on luxury Miami hotels.  As the hotel has had recent upgrades it has a very retro renaissance vibe that is completely different.  The rooms are definitely a pleasant surprise from some of the South Beach tiny quarters.  With bigger spaces in both bed area and the bathroom you get more of a chance to really stretch out.  What may be missing in the lux factor is definitely made up in two other important areas, price and access.  Yep this hotel hits a much lower price point than say the SLS and offers breakfast as part of the room packages.  To add to that attraction you also get all the access to the sister hotels such as the restaurant at the Raleigh, the pool, club and beach at the SLS and even the infamous Delano pool.  If your goal is to be on the move than access alone makes the value of this hotel triple what the charges are.

Next comes the fun. Miami is a great to do a little of everything so yes to strolling clubs on South Beach and also yes to planning a more purposeful evening at a club like Liv.  With the first night being filled with Museum of Ice Cream fun we decided to check out one of the tried and true bars Wet Willies.  Located in the middle of ocean of course you head there for the strong frozen drinks but the crowd of all walks of life that frequents the bar is equally amazing in a people watching train crash kind of way.  Sunday was of course reserved for Sunday Funday starting with the infamous brunch at Nikki Beach.  While it is not for the club like atmosphere the brunch is also delicioso.  With live music and dancers, food at every turn, and drinks pouring all while enjoying the ocean breeze it is a must for anyone who likes a side of fun with their food.  And as if that was not enough Sunday Fun we headed to the pool at the Mandarian Oriental giving phenomenal views of the city and a posh place to relax or turn up as you choose.  Later on in the night we took on the challenge of Liv which of course comes with long waits at the doors and high entrance fees.   All that said wondering up on a performance of Gucci Mane and Little Wayne at the club is just a normal thing that could happen during your visit.

Finally is food. Yep there is ton of titillating treats to eat in Miami so do not dare miss out on some of the deliciousness.  This time I tried something a little new with Prime Italian.  With patio seating that keeps you in the middle of the action and food that is simply amazing it is a great way to add some real laughs into what could be a quiet evening.  When all this is done while you stuff your face with impeccable scallop stuffed lobster there is no shortage of must haves for the night.  So when in Miami for the weekend do not be afraid to take on the challenge and she just how much moving and shaking you can get done in a weekend!

Things you can’t miss on a quick trip to Miami

Miami Fun (4)If you are a glass is half full kind of person like me you know that you can pack a heck of a trip in just 2 days, especially to a destination like Miami! With tempting fare sales popping up you never know when there will be a perfect time and a perfect price to a dream destination like Miami.  I love the vibe of Miami, especially South Beach, as it is so full of energy.  No matter if you want to party or just keep it as a cool celebration between friends there is always something to do and see.  So on my most recent stop in Miami I took my 48 hour time frame very seriously in making sure I got some essentials in:

Miami Fun (2)Pool Time: Yes you probably have pools where you are from but really are the like the pools in Miami. Its like a convention of the beautiful people or the beautiful people and rich people they roll with.  I always stay at the SLS and the people watching cannot be beat!!  Plus with a cocktail waiter nearby at hand you can enjoy your time in the shade nestled in the lap of luxury.

Miami Fun (1)Beach Time: Very different than pool time I really like to take the time to relax and just soak in how awesome life is at the beach. There is something about the crashing of the waves and the beat of the sun that reminds me that I am alive.  Being still in that setting always is a call for gratitude for me and being grateful is the easiest way to see life through rose colored glasses.

Miami Fun (3)Drinks at Mangos: This could be said for your favorite bar on Ocean but the free flowing of alcohol and the ocean air usually makes for some crazy times on the beach. I adore the quesadillas at Mango’s and on top of that you get a show is I make it a must when I touch down on the city.   Grab something tropical and kick your feet up!!!

These three are my go to combo for fun in the city but however you take on Miami remember, you are on vacation, even if it is not a long lasting one you can enjoy every second of it.

Travel Recap: SLS Miami promises and delivers on a luxury experience

Shots at SLS MiamiI will happily admit that I like my share of luxury.  Although luxury is often defined in hefty price tags and exclusive settings, when you walk away what you are left with after a luxury experience how the experience made you feel.  Even the most expensive item feels pretty cheap if you walk away feeling you were not treated as lavishly as the price tag.  In almost every case of an encounter with true luxury the people define just what that experience is.  At my most recent stay at the SLS Miami I was once again reminded that the beautiful location, hip décor, and party atmosphere was just the appetizer for the main course in luxury: the superb service from a great staff. Shots and us at SLS Miami

I am not stranger to fun at the SLS Miami.  Once it opened in Miami I heard pretty quickly of the fun that went on at Hyde.  There is no question that if you are looking for a true Miami experience Hyde is a great place to start.  Just the people watching along gives you ringside seats to some of the beautiful people and crazy times that Miami has to offer.  SLS Miami Hyde poolsideThe day party always promises a good time with music that makes the hotel the envy of the block when approaching the hotel from the beach.  Although the hotel offers all of the Miami decadence one could want, you also have the choice in your experience to turn up or turn down to make your luxury experience everything YOU want it to be.  As I am always on a chase for balance I like that the choice is indeed mine as I enjoyed time relaxing on the beach and poolside in luxurious cabanas and lounges that define fun in the sun for me. SLS Miami beachside

Regardless of if my choice is party or relaxing, I am always pleasantly surprised by the exceptional service the hotel has to offer.  Everyone I encountered went above and beyond to make sure I was having a great time from the second the cab pulled up and I was escorted to my room.  Each member of the staff taking the couple of extra steps, giving those extra smiles and genuine conversations that make you feel like you are more around old friends than a guest at the hotel.  By the end of my trip I always walk around feeling well taking care of ready for my next visit.  When in Miami there are a ton of luxury hotels, but the welcoming staff at the SLS Miami always come through with setting themselves apart from the crowd in delivering on a fantastic experience. SLS Miami walk to the beach
